On December 31, 1879, Thomas Edison demonstrated his incandescent light bulb by lighting a street in Menlo Park, #NewJersey. The #Pennsylvania Railroad Company ran train specials to the area for that day due to the enthusiasm from the public.
Although, the incandescent light had been invented 40 years earlier, Edison developed the carbon filament that made the bulb viable. Between this demonstration and his invention of the phonograph in 1877, Edison was dubbed the "Wizard of Menlo Park".
