One of the most popular children's show in the history of broadcasting, "Howdy Doody" made its debut on December 27,1947, originally as "Puppet Playhouse Theater." NBC featured this show only once a week for 60 minutes on Friday at 5:30 and the show centered around a little freckle-faced marionette named Howdy Doody and his wooden friends and neighbors.

The "Puppet Playhouse Theater" ran from December 27, 1947 until  August 12, 1948. On August 15, 1948, the show was renamed "Howdy Doody" and aired for 30 minutes Monday through Friday at 5:30.
