On June 6, 1944, the D-Day invasion of Europe took place during World War II as Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France. It is estimate that US casualties on this day totaled 1465 dead, 3184 wounded, 1928 missing and 26 captured. Thanks to the sacrifices made on D-Day, Allied forces gained a foothold in Normandy, which was essential to victory in Europe during WWII. #DDay
