Wayne decided to become a Marine when he was a sophomore in High School.  His childhood neighbor was his inspiration in that decision.

On May 29, 1959, eight days after his graduation from Parma High School, he signed up for service in the Marine Corps.

Luke Wayne Blalock is pictured holding a photo of many of the men he served with during his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. He credits the Marine Corps for teaching him many life lessons that he finds helpful such as discipline, commitment, respect learned what the word honor really meant.
